With just nine days to go before the event, it would be a short term commitment, an exciting challenge to overcome and a lot of work.

Although it required long hours (getting up at three and four in the morning a few times), the results were worth it. More than 2,300 volunteers showed up to help more than 13,000 guests get access to free medical care, haircuts, groceries, job placement assistance and more. As a public relations professional, I was even happy with the 1.2 million people that saw our stories on TV. Hundreds of thousands more heard our interviews on radio stations like KFBK and KLOVE or read about the event in The Sacramento Bee and Roseville Patch.

Sitting in front of a computer for too long can drain the inspiration from even the most inspired among us. In a world of cubicles, budgets and deadlines, it’s important to refresh our perspectives and find ways to keep the inspiration alive. My quick fix? A bit of retail therapy and a good song.

While the nearest mall might not seem the most inventive place, rest assured –it is a branding mecca and can conjure up ideas or simply clear space for new ones! I visit the nearby Anthropologie every few weeks and am continually amazed at how a switch in merchandising and color can revive my creativity, no purchase necessary. In a pinch, try flipping through their online catalogue.

Music is a must, whether you use Spotify, iTunes or Pandora. Try a new platform; it will force you to build new song lists, discover new artists and shift the background of your day-to-day.

We are proud to announce that AugustineIdeas was awarded a bronze award for Design of the Times at the Path to Purchase Expo (Shopper Marketing Expo) in Chicago last week for our innovative Lunchbox Winners program! This is big news, and we are honored to have received such a great award from a group that we admire and respect. Lunchbox Winners is a program that we designed to offer busy parents unique and healthy lunch ideas that their kids would love.

Shopper marketing is a major area of expertise here at AugustineIdeas. Our shopper marketing team is always looking for new ways to influence consumers during the purchasing process (known in the industry as “path to purchase”), and we can’t wait to come up with the next big idea.

In this industry, as with most others, networking is vital to the success of our business. Thanks to organizations like Metro EDGE, Social Media Club Sacramento, Tweetups and the Sacramento Public Relations Association, the AugustineIdeas team has a plethora of opportunities to attend networking events.

Last week, PR Specialists Andrew and Jessica headed out on the town to enjoy the company of some of Sacramento’s brightest and best professionals.

A Metro EDGE Mixer was held at Barwest – the newest addition to Sacramento’s bar and restaurant scene – on October 18. The mixer also gave a nod to “Artober” in Sacramento. In addition to mixing and mingling, attendees got to check out the art of an up-and-coming artist, Bryson Webb. At just 18 years old, this artist is a great example of passion and accomplishment.

Social Media Club Sacramento brings together individuals from varying backgrounds with a common interest, learning more about social media. During the last event on October 11, Andrew had the opportunity to listen to PR Manager Lori Bertelli speak about social media horror stories and to network with dozens of others regarding social media.

The Placer Business Tweetup provided our team with an opportunity to meet with local business leaders. A recent event at Legends at Woodcreek on October 19 presented the opportunity to listen to others about what their small businesses do and how PR could help them. PR pros shared what they do for clients and gave some tips to businesses on how to use social media to interact with their customer base.

The Sacramento Public Relations Association mixer brought together PR pros from across the Sacramento region. The mixer, held at Blue Prynt Restaurant and Bar on October 20, helped our team to learn what our industry colleagues are working on and allowed us to connect with new faces (perhaps finding the next AugustineIdeas PR team member).

This week we’re heading to the American Marketing Association: Sacramento Valley and International Association of Business Communicators event at Lounge on 20.

It creeps up on you when you least expect. It waits in the shadows for your focus to shift and your sweet tooth get comfortable calling the shots. That snickers bar doesn’t seem so sinister. Another delivery of Krispy Kreme donuts just arrived? Oh look! There are delicious chocolate, peanut butter, oatmeal cookies in the kitchen again! Just one won’t undo my day. Then, just when your relationship with the gym starts to get a little spotty, it strikes – the dreaded Augustine fifteen!

Well, who says you have to wait for New Year’s Day to declare your resolution? Our team is ready to battle the “Augustine fifteen” here and now! With a few tricks of our own including using a pedometer, rebalancing our relationship with the infamous candy drawer, and trading some of our Kit Kats in for fruits or vegetables, we’re determined to make Halloween the only scary sight this season.

We’re upping our step-count.
